Our mother passed away at 9:05 pm on November 1, 2023, All Saints Day, at Valley Regional hospital surrounded by her family holding her hands and being the energy she needed to transcend to the hands of God.
Preceded in death by her beloved father Jesus Garza in 2007; her husband of 43 years old Jose Arizmendi Sr in 2020; her 34 year old daughter Marina Lucia Arizmendi in 2021; her mother Santa Garza in February 2022; and her brother Jesus Garza Jr in October 2022.
Survived by her sisters Mary, Santa, and Elena; her brothers Raul and Danny; sons Jose Jr, Chester, and Daniel; her daughter Sara; and her fur baby Piglet "Piggy". She is survived and was proud of her granddaughters Jasmine, Anaeli, Althea, Cecilia, Diora; and grandsons Bryan, Jose III, Chester Jr, and Michael. and loved being a great grandmother to Riley.
After raising 5 children and being a devoted wife throughout her husband's Marine Corps Drum & Bugle Career, she continued to pursue higher education and obtained a B.A. from the University of Texas at Brownsville. She was a social Studies teacher at Guadalupe Regional Middle School. She also worked with Cascadas Counseling with her son Dr. Jose Arizmendi Jr. until it's closing in 2019. In recent years, she was a substitute teacher for the Brownsville Independent School District.
Yolanda was a devout Catholic and a long time parishioner of St. Joseph's Church in Brownsville. She was a central part of every church choir she was in throughout her life. She loved to sing with all her heart during every mass inspiring her children at a young age, to join her by her side musically.
Yolanda's Remembrance will be at Funeraria Del Angel Rose Lawn 4464 Old Port Isabel Rd in Brownsville at 3 pm, on November 8 with a rosary at 7 pm. Her memorial mass will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church 555 W. St. Francis St. in Brownsville on November 9 at 2 pm followed by the funeral procession and internment at Funeraria Del Angel Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.
