Alfred was born September 10, 1967 in Bryan to the parents of Ramiro and Gloria (Ramirez) Quintero.
Alfred was a kind, outgoing beautiful soul. Al or “Big Al” as his friends called him never met a stranger. He was friendly, caring and giving. He loved to talk, tell stories and laugh. Alfred loved his culture, Tejano music and his Mother, Gloria’s homemade Mexican food. As a young boy Alfred played baseball at Little League West, enjoyed fishing, camping and playing football. He was member of Santa Teresa’s Catholic Church in Bryan, Texas where he served as an altar boy well into his teens. Al loved hanging with his many cousins that were like his brothers and sisters. They went everywhere together and truly were the best of friends. At a young age, Al found his passion for raising and showing game roosters. His love for game fowl made him one of the most knowledgeable “galleros” in the Brazos Valley. His pursuit of this passion led him all over the state of Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana showing his beautiful gamebirds. The times spent on the road at shows with friends and family over the years were priceless. The friendships and bonds formed will never be broken. Al came from a very industrious and hardworking family. He helped his Mom and Dad with their businesses, Tampico Restaurant, Quintero Plumbing, and the LULAC Recreation Center along with many rental units. Al learned how to work hard from a young age. Given Al’s broad stature, many always took Alfred for older than he was. His brute strength and size eventually led him to play nose guard for the Bryan Vikings. Alfred made many friends at Bryan High and was beloved by the Class of 1986. Upon graduation from Bryan High School, Alfred obtained his degree from TSTI in Waco in welding technology. Alfred went on to work for his family business, Big Q Pick a Part as well as forming EZ Doz It Construction Company with his younger brother Steven. Alfred bravely fought kidney failure, Lupus and routine dialysis from a young age. He did this with a smile and never complained. His body bore the scars of many procedures and yet nothing could dim his beautiful smile. Alfred fought the good fight and as any ol’ rooster man would tell you, “He was game to the core”. Rest easy Alfred. You will be sorely missed.
Alfred is preceded in death by his grandparents, Luis and Geneva Ramirez and Aurelio and Aurelia Quintero.
He is survived by his father, Ramiro Quintero Sr.; mother, Gloria Quintero; brothers, Ramiro R. Quintero Jr., and Steven Columbus Quintero; sister, Debra Ann (Quintero) Rizzo; nieces, Brianna Quintero, Kelsey (Quintero) Bustamante, Albany Quintero and Aleia Rizzo; nephews, Cameron Quintero, Brandon Quintero and Dylan Quintero; great-niece, Taylor Rocha; and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
