Aline Manthei Scasta, age 92, of Bryan, passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2023. Aline, a lifelong resident of Brazos County, was born on January 29, 1931, in Kurten, Texas. She was baptized, confirmed, and married in Zion Church of Kurten.
Growing up, Aline’s life centered around the farm. She knew what chopping cotton, picking cotton, and working the garden were all about – her family’s way of life – and she continued her gardening and yard work through her 88th birthday. Aline attended school at Tabor until the 9th grade, then attended Lamar Jr. High and Stephen F. Austin High School in Bryan. She married her life partner, Emil Scasta, in 1948, one semester before receiving her diploma. She and Emil were blessed with a son in 1951. They attended Zion Church of Kurten where she taught Sunday School. In 1966, they moved their letter to Faith United Church of Christ in Bryan where Aline sang in the choir and enjoyed the Women’s Guild.
Aline worked for Bryan ISD for 25 years, starting in the cafeteria and then spending 18 years as the library aid at Milam Elementary. She always loved working with children. After retiring, Aline and Emil enjoyed many camping trips, especially with their grandchildren. Upon Emil’s passing in 1992, Aline went back to school at age 62 to finish earning her diploma. She was the only graduate that day to be applauded by not only her children, but her grandchildren as well! She then began work at First Presbyterian Church of Bryan in the day care facility.
Aline was preceded in death by her husband Emil “Paul” Scasta; her parents Heady Jeske Manthei and Henry Manthei; great-granddaughters Whitney and Megan Scasta; brothers and their spouses Ludwig (Gladys), Alfred (Essie), and Edward (Vernice) Manthei; and special companions, Pat Ponzio and Jim Nichols. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law David and Sharon Scasta; grandchildren Steve and Brandi Scasta and Diane Scasta; great-grandchildren Addisen and Charlotte Scasta; sister-in-law Velma Manthei; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, August 26 from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at Memorial Funeral Chapel, 1515 S. College Ave, Bryan. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm, also at Memorial Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Kurten Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank the staffs of Crossroads Nursing & Rehabilitation and Hospice Brazos Valley for their loving and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith United Church of Christ (P.O.
