Augustine "Augie" Garza Flores, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 29th, 2025, at the age of 82. Known for his giving heart, quick wit, and unforgettable sense of humor, Augie left a mark on every life he touched-usually while watching wrestling, cracking jokes, or chasing squirrels out of his yard.
Born on November 17, 1942, in San Antonio, he proudly served seven years in the U.S. Army, reaching the rank of E6. He retired after 38 years with Verizon (formerly GTE), known especially around the A&M campus for his reliability, warmth, and humor. Augie loved fishing, woodworking, his birds, and defending his backyard from squirrels (sometimes with law enforcement curiosity). A lifelong WWF fan, he stood by his belief that wrestling was real-and he had the passion to prove it.
He was married to his beloved wife Mary Jane Flores for 57 years. He is survived by his daughters, Alice Hannaman (Rodney) and Priscilla Flores; Zach Rodriguez; grandsons Damian Flores and Jonathon Flores; bonus granddaughters Megan Wilson (William) and Codi Hannaman; and great-grandson Ari Maxwell Flores, son of Damian Flores and Ryane Lea.
He is also survived by his siblings: Mary Martinez (Paul), Serviano Flores, Joe Flores (Alice), Alex Flores, Robert Flores (Mary Jane), Fernando Flores, and Daniel Flores (Darlene); along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Augustine Flores Sr., and his mother. Isabel Flores.
He gave without ever asking. He loved fiercely, laughed loudly, and lived fully.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 3rd from 1:00 to 2:00 PM followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Chapel, Bryan, TX. Interment with military honors will follow at Bryan City Cemetery.
