Bertha Calvo Cavazos, 92 passed away Thursday, December 20, 2018 surrounded by family. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, December 26th from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan with a Prayer Service scheduled for 7 P.M. Funeral services will be at 11 A.M. Thursday, December 27th at the Templo Sulamita Church in Bryan with Reverend Enrique Hernandez officiating. Burial will follow at Rest-Ever Memorial Park in Bryan.

Bertha was born in Oilton, Texas to Sebastian and Paula Gomez Calvo on May 14, 1926. She was a teacher and baseball pitcher in Anahuac and would remind you every chance she got. She married Jesus Cavazos in 1945. She and her family moved to Bryan in 1970 where she became a house wife and loving mother of twelve.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Sebastian Calvo and Paula Calvo; husband, Jesus Cavazos; six sisters, Margarita Saldaña, Santos Elizondo, Julia Gonzales, Alicia Vazques, Maria Rodriguez, and Consuelo Almanza; two brothers, Sebastian Calvo and Marcos Calvo; three sons Federico Cavazos, Cesar Cavazos and Jose Cavazos; one grandson, Cesar Cavazos, Jr.; two sons-in law, Romualdo DeJesus and Baldemar Vazquez; and one daughter-in-law, Julia Carmona. She’s now reunited with them all.

She is survived by one brother, Jesus Calvo; five daughters and three sons-in law, Dora and Luis Hernandez, Nydia and Richard Riojas, Irma and Robert Hernandez, Silvia Vazquez, Bertha DeJesus; four sons and daughters-in law, Jesus and Lourdes Cavazos, David and Bertha Cavazos, Oscar and Abelina Cavazos, and Victor and Melizza Cavazos; 37 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Our family would like to give special thanks to Reverend Enrique Hernandez and his wife, Hermana Rosita Faz, the CCU nursing staff at CHI St. Joseph Health, as well as caregivers, Dora Hernandez, Irma Hernandez, Bertha DeJesus, Nydia Riojas, and grandchildren, Dora Posadas, Jessica Hernandez, and Moses Hernandez.
