

Charles Allen Munday, Jr., 81, passed away Monday, September 16, 2013 at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan. In honor of his wishes, a casual Graveside Service will be held at 11 A.M. Thursday September 19, 2013 at Bryan City Cemetery with Mr. Al Jolly officiating.
Charles was born May 25, 1932 in Bryan, Texas to Helen Davis and Charles A. Munday, Sr. He attended school in Bryan playing and excelling in sports, especially football and basketball. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School and attended Allen Academy Junior College in Bryan. He then transferred to Sam Houston State in Huntsville where he played football. After receiving his Bachelors of Science Degree from Sam Houston, Charles returned to Bryan and began teaching and coaching at Allen Academy. He met the love of his life, Dorothy Burk and they were married on August 27, 1961.
Early in his life, Charles and Dorothy owned and operated a chicken farm in the Reliance area. He was an employee and plant manager at the Pennwalt Corporation in Bryan for many years. Charles later became a Real Estate Broker and appraiser which lead to his own insurance agency, Charles Munday RVOS Insurance Company in Bryan. Due to his love for sports, he became a well-known official in basketball, football, and baseball receiving Honorary Life Membership of The Southwest Football Officials Association and The Southwest Baseball Umpires Association.

He is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Helen Munday; sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Tommy Hensarling; and his brother and sister-in-law, Richard “Dick” and Jeanette Munday.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dorothy Munday of Bryan; one son, Allen Munday of Dallas; two daughters and sons-in-law, Loretta and Eric Hunter of Reno, Texas and Donna Kay and Carlos Coleman of Columbus, Texas; one sister, Naomi and Jim Snyder of South Fork, Colorado; four grandsons, Jack Leonard, Joshua Leonard, Jordan Leonard, and Chase Coleman; two uncles, James Mendl, and Ted Davis and his wife Ida; and a host of other family and friends.
