Corrine Fickey

May 28, 1932November 6, 2018

On November 6, 2018 at 2:37 pm our family watched as our heart, our rock, our mother left this earth. She was a grandmother, a great-grandmother, a great- great-grandmother and a friend, but most importantly she was the glue that held us all together gained her angel wings and grab her husband’s hands and swiftly danced away to celebrate their love for eternity.

Services will be on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 507 East 26th Street with visitation beginning at 12:30 pm followed with The Rosary at 2 pm and then with a Celebration of Life at 3 pm at Joe’s Place in Wixon Valley.

Corrine Fickey, aka Ms. Corrine, was born on May 28, 1932 to John and Rose Krieger in Nebraska. She found her soul mate, Ernest “Sonny” Fickey while working in a hotel in Portland, Oregon. They Married June 7, 1952. They quickly relocated to Bryan, Texas to start their family in 1953.

After the death of her husband in October 1984 she took over the family business and ran it for 27 years. She became a mom to everyone and was known for her hamburgers that she cooked on the griddle, and you never asked for fries because the chips were by the front door. Ms. Corrine always treated everyone with respect and always had free advice. You never dropped the F-bomb or you paid the consequences of her pulling your hair, if you didn’t have hair, she was quick to grab your ear instead.

In 1968 she joined a bowling league called the Celebrity Ladies, where she was a member of the league until 1992. You were always more than welcome to join in on a good game of blitz on Tuesdays and Fridays, she was always ready for a good game of dominos, but cheating was unacceptable. She cherished her family the most and loved every minute she had with them.

Corrine is preceded in death by the love her life Ernest “Sonny” Fickey. Her sister Gretchen Spearman, Brother Donnie Krieger, and her parents. Left to carry on the Fickey legacy is sons, Jerry Fickey and wife Marilyn, Tim Fickey and wife Janet, Donnie Fickey and wife Anita; daughter, Rebecca Mikulec and husband Larry; her grandchildren, Tracey & Justin Roberts, Sherri Fickey, Heather Fickey, Travis & Jenipher Fickey, Candace & Dusty Phillips, Jordan & Morgan Fickey, Mallory & William Schroeder, Lauren Fickey, Mathew Mikulec, Amy Holman, Brandon & Denise Holman and Becca Holman; as well as 15 great- grand- children, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews, and her trusty companion Molly.

Special thanks to her care giver Jean Baker and to Compassionate Care Hospice of Bryan.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Compassionate Care Hospice Bryan, 3833 Texas Ave., Suite #100, Bryan, TX 77802.

We were very blessed to have known her. She reminds me of my own mom. Very high spirited. Said what was on her mind and loved her family with all her heart. We need more people like her in our world. ..

We will never forget Miss Corrine's kindness when out daughter was born. She was so small, the only outfits that fit were the preemie clothes Miss Corrine and Marilyn brought us.

Corrine was the one I called when I had bad news! She always knew what to say. Corrine, Sonny, Louis and I went fishing at Matagorda many times. Too many good stories for this space. She always called Louis on her birthday and told him she had caught up with him! She will be missed!! God bless her and all the family. Louis and Dorothy
