Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday January 22 at Zion Church of Kurten with Rev. Kevin
Boaz officiating. Interment will follow at Kurten Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at
Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.
Gus was born September 4, 1924 in Normangee the son of Ira Lee and Ethie (Lathrop) Gustavus. He
proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during WWII. Gus was a charter member at Faith United
Church of Christ and later joined Zion Church of Kurten and served there as an elder. He retired after 21
years as the body shop manager from Tom Light Chevrolet.
Gus is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Eunice Sharp-Hibler; and a granddaughter, Lesley
Richards.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Edelweiss “Ada” Gustavus of Bryan; daughter and son-in-law,
Shirley and Rusty Richards of Bryan; sister, Zela Hodges of Bryan; grandchildren, Staci Richards Weaver
and Casey Richards and wife Joy; great-grandchildren, Avery Weaver, Graeme Weaver and Regan
Richards.
