Isidora (Dora) Ortega Garcia passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of September 20, 2026 at the age of 99. Dora was born on April 4, 1927 in Caldwell, TX to parents Anastacio and Maria Antonia Ortega.
Dora was a long time resident of Bryan, TX where she lived with her beloved husband of 33 years, John Joe Garcia, and their five children. She was a devout member of Santa Teresa Catholic Church where she was involved in many church activities and served the parish through prayer and charity work as a member of the religious association the Guadalupanas.
Dora was a proud owner and operator of her own beauty salon where she spent her days not only cutting and styling hair but talking to her customers about the latest news and entertainment for almost 30 years.
Dora loved the color green and had a “green thumb” as seen by the many houseplants that thrived in her beauty salon. She also loved listening to anything by Mexican singer-songwriter Juan Gabriel and reading religious books and articles. Her dream trips included visiting Catholic sites in Mexico City, Japan and Korea.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Maria Christina Garcia; two grandsons, Louis Don Garcia and Martin William Garcia; one daughter-in-law Estela (Stella) Garcia; three brothers, Hilario (Larry) Ortega, Feles (Felix) Ortega, Celestino (Tino) Ortega; four sisters, Lucavia (Janie) Martinez, Apolonia (Pola) Zarazua, Rosalvina (Rosa) VeraCruz, Margarita (Margie) Bill.
She is survived by two sons, Roy John (Anita) Garcia, Hector Luis Garcia; three daughters, Dora Anna (Pablo) Guerrero, Rita Luna, Beatrice (Ricardo) Salinas; 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister Esperanza (Hope) Lara.
A visitation will be held from 5 – 7 pm with a rosary at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, September 23 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 24 at Santa Teresa Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mt Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Bryan.
