Doris was born in Marlin, Texas to Jesse and Lucille (Navratil) Blann on July 25, 1924. In 1941, she married Charles Gilcrease, who served in World War II. He later died in in the Texas City Explosion in 1947, leaving her with three young daughters to raise. Doris then wed Kie Jadlowski, also a WWII veteran, and they had a daughter and two sons. Their marriage lasted for 48 years until his death in 1997.
Our mom was a beautiful woman who loved poetry, working crosswords, reading, and collecting angels. She also loved being in nature and working in her yard filled with trees and flowers. A great cook, she made the best pecan pies in the world. She was also known for her sharp wit and dry humor. Always a hard worker, she instilled the same work ethic in her children. This wonderful matriarch was the nurturing center of our family, and she will be deeply and forever missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Charles and Kie, three brothers, Jesse, Howard, and Billy Blann and a sister, Marie Cremona. She leaves behind to cherish her memories four daughters and two sons: Helen Kuykendall (Bill) , Roberta Pitts (H.K.), Gena Gilcrease, Barbara Davis (Ted), Mike Jadlowski (Sandy) and Chris Jadlowski (Pat). She also leaves seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and her sister Ozella Roberts of Friendswood.
Serving as pall bearers will be her grandsons Jeffrey, Kenneth and Eric Beal, Aaron and Jared Jadlowski, and nephew Tim Jadlowski. Honorary pall bearers are her two granddaughters Melissa Bouis and Jennifer Jones.
Her family extends thanks to the staff of St. Joseph Manor Assisted Living and Nursing Home for their professional and loving care. Special thanks to Hospice Brazos Valley--you are wonderful.
Note: As the Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan is being remodeled, the visitation and rosary will be held at Memorial Funeral Chapel at 2901 Texas Avenue South in College Station.
