

Elsie Anna Mathis, 95, of Bryan, passed away early Monday morning at Lampstand Health and Rehab Center. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, August 27, 2014 from Noon to 2 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. Graveside services will take place at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday at College Station City Cemetery in College Station with Reverend David Murphy officiating.
Elsie was born September 21, 1918 in Brazos County to Frances Blazek and James W. Turek. She was a lifetime resident of Brazos County and graduated from A&M Consolidated High School. She married the love of her life, John Clifton “Cliff” Mathis on November 14, 1936. She was a homemaker and also worked as a salesperson at Central Texas Hardware Store in Bryan for 25 years and Douglas Jewelry for 12 years. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Bryan, and the Sons of Hermann Lodge No. 99 in Bryan.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Cliff; one brother Eddie Turek; and one sister, Olla Mae Douglas.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Billie and Richard Ferguson of Bryan; and grandchildren , Ricky Ferguson and his wife Sue of Bryan and Mark Ferguson of Houston. The family has asked that memorials be made in Elsie’s memory to Hospice Brazos Valley in Bryan, or to a charity of choice.
