Educated at Riverside Military Academy and the United States Armed Forces Institute, he was a private investor, avid aviator, marksman and horseman.
A veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, he was twice wounded and the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross with one oak leaf cluster, the Bronze Star Medal and the Air Medal with eight oak leaf clusters, among others.
Preceded in death by his wife of forty two years, Nancy Upham, and son, Jack W. Upham, Jr.
He is survived by his daughters, Candace & husband, David Carrabba, and Rebecca & husband, William S. (Nick) Nichols, III, his son, Craig & wife, Sue Upham, and grandsons, William S. Nichols, IV, Grant J. Carrabba and Jeremy H. Nichols.
A memorial service will be held at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, College Station, Texas at 2:30 PM on Wednesday, January 22, 2014.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to "St. Thomas Episcopal Early Learning Center Scholarship Fund" at 906 George Bush Dr., College Station, Texas 77840 is suggested.
