

Our beloved mother, Jo Ann (Scanlin) Haas passed away peacefully on November 18th 2025 at the age of 88, surrounded by her family in the care of Luminous Hospice care at Jo’s Peaceful Heart Home in College Station Texas.
Jo Ann was born in Bryan, Texas on June 18th 1937 to Frank and Frances (Cash) Scanlin. She graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School, Bryan TX in 1956. Jo Ann met the love of her life, Philip J. Haas Jr. of Hearne Texas, while attending a church deanery meeting in Austin. They were married in St Anthony’s Catholic Church on September 1st 1957 and celebrated 62 wonderful years together. Jo Ann was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother and her smile could light up any room. She loved spending time with her family and friends more than anything. She devoted many years of her life being wife and mother. She began working for Bryan Independent School district as a teacher’s assistant in the Special Education Department and later as library assistant in several schools for over 20 years. Jo Ann was a devout Catholic and member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and later in life, St Joseph’s Catholic Church. She was member of the Women’s Guild, Women’s Auxiliary, Age Managers, and RCIA. Jo Ann enjoyed reading, bible study, playing Bridge, Bingo, Rummikub and taking trips to Las Vegas with her mother and sisters.
Jo Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Philip J. Haas Jr, daughter, Cynthia Haas (Burbules) Davis, sons, Philip J. Haas III and Michael Thomas Haas, her parents, Frank and Frances Scanlin, her sister Beatrice (Scanlin) Speckman and John Speckman, Sister in Law, Patricia (Kyles) Scanlin, father and mother in law, Philip J. Haas Sr. and Hulda Schremp Haas, brother and sister in Law, Marlene (Haas) and Curtis Allen, nieces Rosemary Allen and Julie Allen Lawrence.
Jo Ann leaves behind her sister & brother in law, Theresa (Scanlin) & Rick Walker, brother Joe Scanlin, son in law, Mack Davis, daughter in law, Suzanne (Benavides) Haas, children Pamela and John Blackmon, Frank and Carmen (Chapa) Haas, Greg and Judi (Patranella) Haas, Sharon and Michael Greer, Jeff and Robin (Pope) Haas, her grandchildren, Melissa (Burbules) and Kenney Sonley, Peter and Tessa Burbules, Diana (Burbules) and Kevin Hines, Casey and Sarah Burbules, Michele (Blackmon) and Bryan Gray, John and Rebecca Blackmon, Christopher Haas, Christina Haas, Madison (Haas) and Ruben Pensado, MacKenzie (Haas) and Anthony Zachria, Benjamin and Moriah Greer, Matthew Greer, Jacob and Tami Greer, Kaylea and Emily Haas-Hernandez, Zach Haas, great grandchildren, Kosta Sonley, Jonas Sonley, Noah Burbules, Lucy Burbules, Sophia Hines, Lilly Hines, Lincoln Burbules, Alex Gray, Tristan and Lexan Backhaus, Angela Blackmon, Samson Pensado, Theo Pensado, David Greer, Phillip Greer, Titus Greer, John Greer, Stephen Greer, Elizabeth Greer, Jemma Greer, Amanda Greer, Eden Greer, Joanne Greer, and two on the way, great-great grandchildren, Jeffrey Backhaus and Juniper Backhaus. Multiple nieces, nephews, and cousins. We are so grateful for all the love and care that mom received in her final weeks on this earth from Jo’s Peaceful Heart Homes and Luminos Hospice Care.
Visitation will be held at Memorial Funeral Chapel, Tuesday, November 25, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm with a rosary service at 6:30 pm. A Funeral Mass will be conducted at St Joseph Catholic Church, 600 E 26th St, Bryan, Texas, 77803, on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ben Greer, Matthew Greer, Jacob Greer, Christopher Haas, John Blackmon, Bryan Gray, Ruben Pensado, and Anthony Zachria.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Vincent de Paul in Bryan.
