

Lawrence “Sonny” Theodore Polzer passed away on October 24, 2025 in Rosenberg, Texas. He was born on July 21, 1928 in Cameron, Texas to Stephen Frank Polzer Jr. and Magdalena (Moraw) Polzer. Lawrence grew up on a farm outside of Cameron and was the oldest of 5 brothers. He graduated from C.H. Yoe High School in Cameron in 1946.
After serving with the US Army in the Korean War for two years, Lawrence obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Arts from University of North Texas and Master’s degree in Education from Sam Houston State University. He worked for 30 years at Burbank Middle School in Houston, Texas, teaching woodshop. Through Lawrence’s excellent mentorship, his students won many awards at the state level related to woodworking.
He married Patricia O’Neill on June 11, 1960. They resided in Houston until her death. He married Edna Dobecka on June 6, 1970. They lived in Houston many years, moving to Bryan, Texas after his retirement in 1988.
Lawrence was a kind and compassionate man, always willing to help others. He excelled in woodworking and handcrafted many beautiful items such as coffee tables, jewelry boxes, chests of drawers, and a frame for a grandfather clock. He was an avid gardener and a member of the garden club in Bryan. He served as an usher for St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a member of the Earl Graham American Legion Post 159 and it’s Honor Guard. He enjoyed listening to the Houston Astros on the radio and reading the Houston Chronicle every morning.
Lawrence is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Patricia and his second wife, Edna; brothers Bernard Polzer, Eugene Polzer, and Stephen F. Polzer III; and numerous brothers and sisters-in law. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca Lynn and Armand Casarez of Missouri City, Texas; brother, Wilfred Polzer of Daggett, Michigan; sisters-in-law Rosalie Polzer and Eileen O’Neill; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family extends the deepest gratitude to all the compassionate care and support received from: Ginny Holms, RN of Remarkable Hospice in Sugar Land, Texas; Bobby English, Julie Gasser, and the staff of Optimum Personal Care in Sugar Land, Texas; and the staff of Village Forest Care Cottage in Rosenberg, Texas.
A funeral mass will be celebrated for Lawrence at St Joseph Catholic Church, 507 E 26th Street, Bryan, Texas, Friday, October 31, 2025 at 11 am. Visitation will be at the church from 10 to 11 am with the Rosary recited at 10:30 am. Interment will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Weimer, Texas at 2:30 PM. Pallbearers will be Johnny Dobecka, Jon Milanesi, Eric Polzer, Jeffrey Polzer, Tim Polzer, and Ralph Zann.
