Mary Jane “Janie” West, 66, passed away Monday, February 26 at St. Joseph Regional Health Center. A Celebration of Janie’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 2 at Zion Church of Kurten.

Janie was born May 31, 1951 in Texarkana, Texas the daughter of R. T. and Elsie (Turner) Clift. She and her family moved to Kurten in 1955. Janie met the love of life, Larry West and they were married in 1970. She was a long time member of Zion Church of Kurten, where she felt extremely blessed with Zion’s strong foundation (since the age of 4); loving family and angelic friends. Janie enjoyed working in various service organizations including, Zion Church of Kurten, the Kurten Community Center and the American Cancer Society.

Janie retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 31 years of service as Kurten’s Postmaster. She will be remembered for devotion to family and unconditional love for her grandchildren.

Janie is preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Larry West; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Traci West; daughter and son-in-law, Holly and Wes Wolfe; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Doris Clift; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Gail West; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Beverly and Leon Whitehead; grandchildren, Tatum and Walker West, Hudson and Hamilton Wolfe.

I worked in Kurten between 1980 and 1990 and would stop by the post office every now and then to mail something or get some stamps. I remember Mary always had a smile and a great personality. I wanted to express my condolences for the family's loss.
