She was born in Etoile, Texas on August 7, 1938 to parents Sam and Addie Bess Ragar. She was the first born, and enveloped the very essence of that role. She was a loving big sister, and was referred to as “little big sister” due to her small stature. She had a special bond with each of them.
Growing up she was a firecracker with a zeal for life that was seen in her big beautiful smile. She was tough as nails when she needed to be, but the most caring, selfless person you had ever met. After divorcing her first husband and being widowed by her second, she went on to raise her children and live a self sufficient and well loved life. She spent many hours sewing, quilting, crafting, and baking for loved ones. She made many thousands of baked goods and homemade quilts and dolls over the years that she loved sharing with family and friends. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren always anticipated their baked goods, as she was a wonderful baker. She had a large collection of recipes and loved sharing those as well.
She has seen a lifetime of many great and wonderful things, and she came to know the Lord at 18 years of age, and walked with Him the remainder of her life on Earth.
She is preceded in death by her parents Sam and Addie Bess Ragar. Her Sister, Sandra Lee. Her brothers, Ernie Robbins and Charles “Duck” Robbins. Two sons, James Craig Oatis and Calvin Oatis. Grandson, Curtis Oatis, Jr. Great Granddaughter, Harley Mullenix, and two Great Grandsons, Johnnathan Gilbreath and Hoyt Craig Burgess. All with whom she is rejoicing in Heaven.
She was a mother/mother figure to 10 children throughout her lifetime, all of whom she loved. Some she birthed, and some that were birthed in her heart. Carlos Oatis, Carolyn Neidner, Curtis Oatis, Calvin Oatis, Craig Oatis, Cathy Rash, Cheri Barlow, Sammy Mullenix, Gloria Lechinger, and Darien Guenther. She lived a life that provided her the opportunity to love 16 grandchildren, 44 Great Grandchildren, and 6 Great-Great Grandchildren. She also had numerous nieces and nephews all of whom were loved by her dearly.
