Nellie was born in Perry County, Mississippi, to Oscar and Luvenia Parker Courtney and married Clyde Haskel Brunson on June 19, 1947, in Hattiesburg, Miss. Nellie loved sharing family stories of her life on the farm.
The family will remember her for her down-home, delicious cooking. Nellie had a youthful heart all her life and loved children unconditionally. Her heart was large enough for her eight children, but there was room enough to include her Sunday school and daycare children.
Her children enjoyed sharing mom with their friends, and always had a crew over to visit.
Nellie had a special love for gardening, displaying a vibrant array of colors each spring. She enjoyed spending time watching the humming birds fly by her gardens.
Nellie read her Bible daily and could be found explaining different passages of scripture with her family and friends. She was active in her ladies Sunday school class at Northview Baptist Church.
Preceding Nellie in death were her parents, Oscar and Luvenia Courtney; her husband, Clyde; son, Haskel; brothers, Owen Courtney and O.G. Courtney; sisters, Ava Lee Spence and Mary Ellen Courtney.
Survivors include her children, Bill Brunson and wife, Lynn, James "Buzz" Brunson and wife, Katherine, Tommy Brunson and wife, Stephanie, David Brunson and wife, Nellie, Susie Gallaher and husband, Curtis, Mary Cooper and husband, Monroe, and Margaret Denson and husband, Carl; twenty-six grandchildren, forty eight great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
