Olamae was raised in Menard, Texas then attended Sul Ross College in Alpine, Texas where she met her one true love, Stub Davis. Both were in the Mask and Slipper acting club. In 1945, after graduation, they moved to Bryan where he would become a coach, teacher and administrator. They had three children Jan, Warren, and Mack. She returned to college to pursue her teaching degree at Sam Houston State University in 1962 then began teaching in Bryan ISD in 1967.
Mrs. Davis spent the next few decades teaching first graders at Fannin Elementary, Henderson Elementary, and St. Michael’s Academy. Her impact had a ripple effect in her community extending far beyond. She fought hard for children, especially those with special needs. She wanted them integrated into mainstreamed classrooms. One child, in particular, Mrs. Davis took on the administration to keep them in her classroom where she stated there was nothing wrong with that child’s brain. That first grader became valedictorian of her Bryan High class twelve years later! Mrs. Davis continued to teach first graders into her seventies.
Her faith was an important part of her life during her longtime membership at First United Methodist Church and the Neighborly Sunday school class. She battled and valiantly won her battle with Breast Cancer at the age of 85.
She is preceded in death by her husband, W. B. “Stub” Davis; mother, Mae Cordelia Lummus; son, Warren B. Davis II; son-in-law, Richard Rosser; great-grandson, Dalton Rosser; and brothers, C. J. “Jack” Underwood, Clayton Underwood and Dayton Underwood.
Olamae is survived by her children, Jan Rosser and Mack Davis (Cindy); eight grandchildren, Ric Rosser (Becky), Stacy Smith (Michael), Trey Davis (Aimee), Spencer Davis (Kat), Katrina Sonley (Keniey), Pete Burbules (Thessa), Diana Hines (Kevin) and Casey Burbules (Sarah); thirteen great-grandchildren with another due in August and two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.
The family would like to thank her caregivers at The Isle at Watercrest, Accel of College Station and Hospice Brazos Valley for taking such wonderful care of her over the past twelve years.
