Born July 27, 1927, in China Grove, North Carolina, Pearl was the eldest child of Baxter and Mary Ellen Holshouser. Caring for her mother at a young age inspired her to pursue a career in nursing and after high school, she moved to Mooresville, North Carolina to attend classes to become a Registered Nurse.
An independent spirit, Pearl graduated from Lorwance Hospital Training School for Nurses in 1948. As a newly Registered Nurse, Pearl boarded a bus and headed to Austin, Texas where she began her nursing career at Breckenridge Hospital. Her next stop was El Campo where she married and welcomed her daughter, Patricia Marie. Eventually settling in Bryan, Texas, Pearl began a 37-year career at Humana Bryan Hospital. She had the distinguished honor of moving the first patient into all three of the Bryan Hospital facilities. Retiring in 1990, Pearl remained active into her 90s with travel, woodworking, and visiting with her family and grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Earl Holshouser and Colleen Kennedy.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Glen Green, grandson Brian Strength and wife Courtney, granddaughter Shelley Pearson and husband Arnold, and granddaughter Alicia Russom and husband Kevin. She also leaves happy memories for her great-grandchildren, Hannah Strength, Sophie Cox, Mackenzie Schreiber, Cody and Cole Russom.
Services will be held Thursday, February 9th at 2:00 pm at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes to honor her lifelong commitment to nursing with donations to Hospice Brazos Valley.
