Peggy was born to Ralph and Verda Williams on March 12, 1938. Peggy was raised in Palestine and Houston and graduated from Aldine High School. She was a majorette in high school and also showed Manchester Terriers with her parents.
Peggy married her high school sweetheart, Wesley Alvin Gideon on December 29, 1956 in Houston, Texas. Wesley was a student and football player at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas where Peggy was a secretary in the Admissions department.
Wesley and Peggy moved to Canada where Wesley played professional football. In 1961, Wes and Peggy moved back to San Antonio where Wesley began working for Luby’s Cafeteria, a position that began their lifelong careers in food service.
The Gideons lived in San Antonio, Houston, Abilene, and San Angelo before settling in Bryan/College Station in 1970. Peggy began working at Texas A&M University as an administrative assistant in the Department of Biomedical Research and in later years worked in the Department of Food Service. She was the manager of numerous large facilities and was instrumental in the planning and development of multiple cafes and food courts on campus. Peggy retired from Texas A&M after 17 years of exemplary service. Thereafter, she worked alongside her husband at various restaurants they owned including W.G. & Co., The Lighthouse, and Farmer’s Market BBQ & Catering. Peggy was a member of First Baptist Church of Bryan.
Peggy loved to work outside in the yard, play bridge, go fishing and attend all the many activities of her children and grandchildren. She loved to have her family visit at their lake house on Lake Limestone where she spent her summers. Peggy loved her grandchildren and spent as much time as possible teaching them to fish and enjoy life at the lake with the family.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Robert Ned Williams.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years; two sons and daughters in law, Wesley Dean and Sherri and Robert Dale and Veronica; and a daughter, Sharean Gideon and wife, Val Hartwick.
She was the proud grandparent of Wesley Scott Gideon and wife, Amy of Michigan; Stacey and husband, Tony Stunkel, of Bryan; Tyler Gideon and wife, Kelly of College Station; and Kyle Gideon and wife, Casey of College Station. She was immensely proud of her great-grandchildren: Aiden, Eli, Avery Jane, Sydney, Alex, Abby, Cooper, Cameron, Jax, and Graham. She also had numerous nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and great-nephews.
Peggy showed us how to live, love, and make life what you want it to be. She taught us to always put family first. Wesley and Peggy’s marriage is an example of the love and dedication they had for each other and their family as well as an example of their Christian values which inspires us all. We love you and we will miss you, Nanny!
