Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Saturday, April 24, 2010 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 23 with the family present. Burial will follow at Bickham Cemetery in the Tabor Community.
Ralph was born in Bryan to Roger Curtis and Velma Udell (Rudasill) Elliott. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1951. Shortly after graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and he was injured while serving during the Korean War. After his discharge from the Navy, Ralph returned home to study engineering at Texas A&M University.
In 1959, Ralph became an agent with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission. His career with the TABC eventually relocated him and his family to Waco, Texas where he was promoted to Assistant Supervisor. A later promotion to the rank of District Supervisor, took Ralph and his family to Corpus Christi, Texas where he continued to work until his retirement in 1983. After his retirement, Ralph obtained certification as a full captain and operated his own fishing guide service until 2003.
Ralph was a member of the Cottonwood Baptist Church in the Tabor Community. He was also a licensed peace officer for the State of Texas. He enjoyed serving his community and was a member of the Coastal Bend Guide Association, Coastal Conservation, and Aransas Pass Chamber of Commerce. He was named Volunteer of the Year, in 1997 by Aransas Pass Chamber of Commerce. Ralph loved to fish and hunt, but most of all he loved his family and the many gatherings and adventures life lead them on.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Udell Elliott.
Survivors include his wife, Syble Elliott of Portland; his daughters, Cynthia Payne and husband, Kenneth, of Bryan, and Caroline Carter and Charles Tucker of Portland; his son, Ralph Curtis “Curt” Elliott, Jr. of College Station; sister, Barbara Hein of Bryan; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Wanda and Glenn Hall of Teague, Texas, Pee Wee and Linda Carter, of Kirvin, Texas, Gale Carter of Kirvin, Texas and Jerry and Lucille Carter of Fairfield, Texas; grandchildren: Steven and Jessica Atkinson, Cody Atkinson and wife, Crystal, Amanda Ricks and husband, James, all of Bryan, C. J. Elliott of College Station, Erin Elliott of Conroe, Brandi Tucker of Portland and Miranda and Trey Tucker; nine great-grandchildren; a niece, Melissa and Stephen Parker of Bryan; nephew, Malcolm Hein of Bryan; great-nieces, Morgan Hein and Emily Parker; great-nephew, Mason Hein; and numerous other relatives and friends.
