

Reuben Bond, 91, passed away Friday morning, May 18, 2012, at Millican House in Bryan. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, May 21, at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. Interment will follow at Bryan City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 20, at the funeral home. Reuben was born in Bryan on July 24, 1920, to Edna and Tom Bond. On January 1, 1945 he married Glenda Ray Reiger of Decatur, Texas. Reuben attended Texas A&M University before enlisting to serve our country in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He served in WWII as a staff sergeant and was stationed at Samar in the Philippines. Later he was Commander of the American Legion Earl Graham Post 159 in Brazos County, he served as President and coached for Little League East and President of the Kiwanis Club. Reuben was a devoted member and Sunday school teacher for years at Central Baptist Church. He was employed by the Houston Chronicle as district manager and later worked for the First National Bank of Bryan as Executive Vice President for 33 years. Reuben was an avid fisherman, hunter and enjoyed sports of all kinds. He will always be remembered as a devoted Christian, father, grandfather and husband. Reuben is preceded in death by his four brothers, Monroe, E.F. “Nooks”, Harry and Roger Bond; and a sister, Gladys Bond Gilmore. He is survived by his wife, Glenda Ray Bond; son, Johnny Bond and wife, Dianne, Glen Bond and wife, Amy; daughter, Merrill Kirkpatrick and husband, Roy; five grandchildren, Brent and Shelly Bond, Wesley and Michelle Bond, Matthew and Shawna Bond, Ashley Bond, Amy and Jon Fisher; four great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Logan Bond, and Jackson and Will Fisher.
