
Robert W. Caldwell, Jr., 78, passed away Friday, November 11, 2011 at his home, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Visitation is set at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan from 5:30 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. Tuesday November 15. Graveside services will be at Bickham Cemetery at 11:00 Wednesday morning.
Bobby was the eldest child of Beth Locke and Robert W. Caldwell, Sr. He was born in Houston, TX. At the age of 10, he and his family moved to Tabor, where he began his schooling, first at the Tabor School, Lamar Jr. High School, and Stephen F. Austin High School, where he graduated in 1951.
In the summer of 1951, he entered Texas A and M, and graduated with a Commission in the U.S. Air Force in 1955. He then entered Navigator Training School at Ellington AFB where he received his wings. As a navigator, he flew many missions, for 9 years traveling the world. He was chosen to attend the University of Southern California through an Air Force program, and received his Masters Degree in 1967. He served in Vietnam from 1971 – 72. After a tour at the Pentagon, he attended the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, and continued his career in the Air Force until his retirement in 1982, serving 26 years. He then went into teaching, and taught business at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, TX for 22 years until his retirement in 2004.
After retirement, he and Beverly moved back to his beloved country life and built their home out at his home place where they enjoyed their quiet life and peaceful surroundings.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Beverly Watson Caldwell; three sons, Christopher Scott and Patty of Katy, TX, Robert King of Bryan, and Patrick David and Elizabeth of San Antonio; one daughter Kirstin Margaret and Leigh Koltun of San Antonio; his brother, Charles W. Caldwell and Gaye of Bryan; and his sister Elizabeth Caldwell Kinder and Richard of Gold Canyon, AZ. He is also survived by six granddaughters, Jacquelynn, Charlotte, Ashley, Kayleigh, Claire, and Kate.
