Born November 15, 1953, in Galveston, Texas, Robert lived a life marked by steady faith, deep devotion to those he loved, and an example that lifted others through the quiet strength of how he served and showed up each day.
Visitation with service will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, August 10, at Memorial Funeral Chapel, in Bryan. Graveside service will be held at 11:15 am Tuesday, August 11, at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038.
After finishing school, Robert enlisted in the U.S. Army, proudly serving our country during the Vietnam war. In his working life, he was a truck driver, and in his spiritual life he remained faithful—attending church and serving as a Sunday School teacher, offering guidance with sincerity and purpose.
Robert found joy in being around family, watching the Dallas Cowboys, dancing, and listening to some good old music. He carried himself with care and dignity—always well dressed, boots on—leaving an impression of someone devoted not only in word, but in the everyday details that spoke to his character.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mildred and Joe; and a sister, Carolyn Joyce Joseph.
Robert’s memories will be cherished by his wife of 54 years, Joetta Reece Upshaw; son, Robert Lee Upshaw Jr; daughters, Tarasha Meredith Upshaw, Terenthia Ann Upshaw and Keisha Upshaw; stepsons, Keith M. Reece and wife Kalandria, Kevin B. Reece and wife Ticily, son, Marcus Eugene Reece; sisters, Patricia and Debra Ann; brother, Douglas; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
