Walter W. Chapman

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday January 28, 2014 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. Funeral Services are scheduled for Wednesday, January 29, at 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home with Reverend Monsignor John McCaffrey officiating. Interment will follow at Smetana Cemetery in the Smetana Community.

Walter was born September 8, 1937 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Ruby Spillers and Robert Chapman. He graduated from Corpus Christi Ray High School and entered Texas A&M College in 1956. He graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Technology. While at Texas A&M, he met and married the love of his life, Carolyn Merka. Walter and Carolyn returned to Corpus Christi where Walter worked as a Sales Representative for Ducomon Metals. In 1967 they returned to Brazos County when Walter went to work at the Cyclotron at Texas A&M. He retired after 37 years of faithful service.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents Robert Chapman and his mother Ruby Chapman Stewart.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carolyn Chapman of Smetana; one daughter, Ashley Chapman of Smetana; one sister and brother-in-law, Bobbie Eleanor and Don Horne of Sinton, Texas; and numerous other family and friends.

The family has requested that memorials be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 507 East 26th Street, Bryan, Texas 77803.
