William "Bill" Lawson

William (Bill) Lawson, 93, passed away early Wednesday morning June 7, 2017, at Generations Center for Senior Living in Bryan. He endured a 4 year battle with Dementia and many other years with Parkinson’s disease. Visitation will be at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan on Saturday, June 10 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A Rosary of Life will be recited at 7:30 pm by Msgr. Isidore Rozycki A Celebration of Life Mass will be held at Christ the Good Shepard Chapel, 600 S. Coulter Dr, Bryan, Texas on Sunday, June 11 at 1:00 p.m. with Msgr. John McCaffrey officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Bryan with full military rites.

Bill was born to Ondis and Sophia (Parker) Lawson on November 4, 1923 in Normangee, Texas. He grew up on the family place in Flynn, Texas where he graduated from school. While he was working at Sibesa Mess Hall at Texas A&M College, he made friends with two young men who introduced him to their sister, Myrtle Fuschak.

It was love at first site and they were married on June 10, 1944 in Columbia, South Carolina before Bill was sent overseas during WW II. He served in Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. After he was discharged, he and Myrtle returned to Bryan to start their home. Bill and his father-in-law, Anton Fuschak, built their house in which they lived in until they had to move to the nursing home.

Bill was hired as a mail clerk for the U S Postal Service in 1950 and spent most of his career as a window clerk at the Bryan Downtown Station. He retired in 1982 after 32 years of service. He was fortunate enough to enjoy his 35 years of retirement before passing away. He was a member of St Joseph’s Knights of Columbus (KC’s) Council 1834 for 62 years.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle, his parents, his brother, James Lawson and sister, Nettie Anderson. He is survived by their only child, Larry Lawson, his sisters Rosie Stravolemos and Evelyn Marsh, sister-in-law’s Janie Fuschak and Nancy Lawson plus many nieces and nephews.

Honorary pall bearers will be his former postal service co-workers.
