Carmen Gutierrez Castro, a fierce matriarch, a selfless provider, and a woman whose heart was as boundless as her incredible work ethic, passed away on August 17, 2026, at the age of 85. Born on May 15th, 1941, in the vibrant city of Obregon, Sonora, Mexico, Carmen’s life was a brilliant testament to resilience, joy, and the enduring power of family.

Carmen was a true hustler in the very best sense of the word. She was resourceful, fiercely driven, and unapologetically dedicated to creating a beautiful, stable life for those she loved. She was the rare kind of woman who would quite literally give you the coat off her back without a second thought, always placing the needs of her

family above her own. Her kitchen was the lively heartbeat of her home. She loved nothing more than cooking for her family, pouring her rich heritage, unwavering warmth, and joyful soul into every single meal she prepared. Her table was a place of laughter, comfort, and undeniable love.

For 25 years, she shared a marriage with Hilario Ocon, building a foundation of memories. Yet, Carmen’s absolute pride, joy, and greatest life’s work were her three girls. She successfully raised strong, independent daughters, ensuring they carried forward her fierce independence, unshakeable work ethic, and deep compassion.

Her beautiful legacy continues to blossom through her beloved daughters, Josie Gutierrez Gonzales (and husband Jose), Maria Osuna (and husband Ricardo Sr.), and Lupe Toca. She was a deeply proud and doting grandmother to Ricardo Osuna Jr., Jonathan Toca, Annabelle Toca, Isaiah Jeter, David Osuna, and Jolei Jeter, as well as a delighted great-grandmother (GG) to Camilo “Milo” Osuna and Ezequiel “Ez” Osuna.

Carmen is now joyfully reunited with her Lord and Savior in peace with her parents, Sergio Gutierrez and Francisca Castro, her brothers, German, Rafael, Fernando, and Crispin, and her sisters, Celestina, Romelia, and Helena.

While her earthly kitchen may now be quiet, the warmth of her spirit, the delicious memories of her cooking, and the phenomenal strength she instilled in her family will sustain them forever. Carmen lived fully, loved deeply, and leaves behind a family that is infinitely stronger because she was their unwavering foundation.
