Cecil Oscar Sharp II passed away in his home in Bullhead City, AZ on Feb. 10, 2025. He was born in Corona, Calif. on Oct. 14, 1950, where he also graduated at CHS in 1968. He went on to graduate from UC Riverside in 1977 with Bachelor degrees in both History and Religious Studies. He became an exceptional teacher at St. Margaret’s Catholic School in Chino, Calif. Those young children loved Mr. Sharp's History and Religion classes, they enjoyed his uniqueness and intelligence. Following that position, Cecil went on to teach at Notre Dame High School in Riverside, Calif. Enriching the minds of teenagers brought him such a feeling of pride and accomplishment.
Cecil later accepted a position as a Librarian, specializing in Periodicals, History, and Religious Studies at the Salt Lake City Main Library in Utah. A local radio station requested Cecil, as an expert historian, and he hosted the weekly show “This Week in Salt Lake City History”. His creative style of story telling made him very well known and highly regarded among his listeners.
Outside of work, Cecil had a lot to keep him busy. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, also he enjoyed many hobbies including fishing, walking and hiking, drawing house floor plans, casino slot machines, cooking (he was a wonderful and creative cook), and above all else he loved reading (usually three or more books at a time). He was so intelligent, he loved to share his knowledge; the man was a great conversationalist that could talk for hours about theology or history with great enthusiasm.
For all his passions, what Dad loved most was his family and he sacrificed so much for us. He was so proud of his daughters and his grandchildren Mara, Briana, and Tristan. Most of all, he had an everlasting love and devotion to Susanna, the love of his life. We feel so blessed that she was the one holding him, listening to his “I love you”, when he passed.
We have all lost a brilliant, funny, wonderful, and loving man that was close to God, but we know he’s left this world to reunite with loved ones that have been waiting for him; most of all his daughter Mara Therese Cecile Sharp
Cecil is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Susanna, children Sharon Blaser and Christian Sharp; grandchildren Mara Blaser, Briana Ziemski (Braden) and Tristan Blaser;
his sisters Joyce Pettit (Melton “Red”), Cecelia Owen, and Janice Faulkner (Greg); Aunt Barbara AhSing, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Cecil was preceded in death by parents Cozetta and Cecil, and his daughter Mara Therese Cecile Sharp.
The family would like to thank Canyon Home Care & Hospice for their support and care. A special thank you to Melissa, Briee, and Gigi for their love and special attention they gave to Cecil, besides bringing a smile to his face. There aren’t words to express our gratitude for the comfort you brought into our home.
There will be a Celebration of Life in the last week of May, more information to follow.
