Darlene Kay Griffis, 80, of Bullhead City, Arizona, was born March 13, 1946, in Terre Haute, Indiana, and passed away on September 21, 2026. Darlene will be remembered with deep respect and enduring affection by all who had the privilege to know her.
Darlene dedicated many years of steady work and service as a casino employee, retiring after 18 years with Soft County in Laughlin, Nevada, where she worked at both the Golden Nugget and the Colorado Belle. Throughout her life, she carried herself with quiet thoughtfulness and unmistakable honesty—qualities that shaped the way she treated others and the way others came to trust and cherish her.
Her interests reflected a generous spirit and a gentle attentiveness to the world around her. Darlene delighted in collecting anything related to bears, and she found comfort and enjoyment in reading, cooking, and watching movies. She also loved following the births of eagles, giraffes, and hummingbirds—small wonders that spoke to her compassionate nature and her appreciation for life’s unfolding moments.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Helen Overmyer; brother, Ralph L. Overmyer; nephew, Ralph L. Overmyer Jr; and sister in law, Carol Johnson.
She is survived by her loving husband, R.L. Griffis; sister, Connie Overmyer; brothers, Arthur Overmyer and Allyn Johnson; nieces, Jeanelle Heaston, Jaime Mone, Jill Overmyer and Sara Legge; nephews, Jason Drafton, Andrew Overmyer, Zachary Overmyer, Paul Johnson, Aaron Johnson, Mark Johnson, Larry Overmyer, Shannan Overmyer and Ronald Overmyer; nephew in law, John Heaston; sisters in law, Jan Overmyer and Elizabeth Overmyer; 10 great nephews and 12 great nieces.
As her family shared, Darlene was a loving wife of 61 years to R.L. Griffis. She was a sister that we were truly blessed to have, a friend to all those who met her, and one who brought laughter everywhere she went, an Aunt so loved, leaving precious memories. In all these roles, Darlene remained deeply beloved and profoundly cherished—giving of herself in ways both seen and quietly felt.
A service will be held at 12 pm on Friday, November 13, 2026 at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, California.
