Everett Leonard Weems, better know to friends and loved ones as Leo, was born July 26, 1938 to Florence Louise Daggett and Royal Raymond Weems in Centralia, Washington. He laid his head to rest for the last time on May 7, 2012 in Bullhead City, Arizona at the WARMC hospital. His parents and two sisters, Carol and Marline, preceded him in death. He also leaves behind four brothers, Eddie, Gary, Ira and Dale. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jo Ann Good. He also has three children, Jeanie Weems Anderson, Joseph Weems and Margaret Weems Ledridge. He also has a very special friend who is considered part of the family, Karen Sachs.
Leo was a very likable guy and made friends easily. He had several good friends as he walked his life's path. A childhood friend and they joined the Navy together was Bob Almey. Another good friend of his from the Navy was Pete Shumaker. Then there was his good old hunting and fishing buddies, Evan Bird, Perry Gelnett (he and his wife are like family, we've known Perry and Darla for 42 years), Rocky Athens, Glenn Sneary and the list goes on.
Leo and I met Jan. 8, 1967. After the third date we decided we were the perfect couple because neither of us wanted to get married. We were married on March 17, 1967. We have three children, Jeanie born 12/29/67, Joseph born 9/14/69 and Margaret born 4/20/71. They gave us seven beautiful grandchildren, Janene 10/13/87, Stomi 4/16/88, Ashlea 2/22/1992, Brandon 9/1/1992, Shelby 3/31/1993, Kevin Jr. 3/19/1996 and Alyson 3/4/2001. Janene will give birth to our first great grandchild, Javin, in August of this year.
The three things Leo loved the most was his family, church (LDS) and his Navy career. He served on a few different ships but his favorite was the sea going tugs. He was always proud to tell people he was Mormon. We joined the church in La Puente, California October 13, 1972.
After he retired from the Navy we moved to Washington State where he was born. After searching for a job for some time he got hired on at Bode's Truck Stop. He was doing okay there but then got a chance to go to work for Hemphill/O'Neill Lumber, which at the time meant a big raise in money, he was going from $3.50 an hr. to $5.20. He worked there until the mill burnt down and then he got lucky and went to work for Toyota VPI in Portland so that meant we were on the move again. Jeanie had gotten married by then and I refused to leave Washington, so we moved to Vancouver which is just across the river from Portland. He worked there until 1989 when he had an accident at work which led to the loss of is left leg. It was downhill from there with his health. He had heart attacks, hernias, pain all the time, UTI's that would put him in the hospital and the list goes on.
Leo had been a very active person, enjoying baseball, football, hunting, fishing, nascar, square dancing, boating, reading, working on cars, helping others, traveling and amusement parks.
Thank you to all who helped during this difficult time of our lives.
I know we will be reunited but until then my heart will ache over the loss of my best friend, lover, father of my children, grandfather to our grand kids........the man I was always proud to say "This is my husband, Leo".
