

Arlene was born June 17, 1956 in Negombo, Sri Lanka.
She was the daughter of George Gunawardena and Ruby Nelson.
A matriarch of her family, she was the eldest of 7 children, having four sisters: Aloma, Aureen, Jenny, and Susan, and two brothers: Tyronne and Desmond.
Even in adulthood her siblings often looked to her for guidance.
In Sri Lanka she worked for Sri Lankan Airlines for many years, becoming a Ground Supervisor.
She moved to the United States in 1990 where she would settle in Burbank, California with her husband of 36 years, Lalith Niranjan Wijesooriya.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Jonathan, and daughter, Denise.
In California she worked for the Los Angeles Unified School District for many years, becoming a respected Senior Fiscal Technician.
She had a love of nature and flowers, growing roses amongst other plants in her garden.
She was a devout Catholic following her faith by doing good deeds.
Every year she would send goods and supplies to family and friends in Sri Lanka.
Additionally, she encouraged others to pursue their education and careers, providing them resources, supporting them financially and emotionally, while pushing them to strive for better.
Arlene was a woman who always wanted to help others, and strived to do so.
A loving wife, a devoted mother, and a cherished friend.
All those whose lives she touched will remember her for how genuine and kind she was.
Until we are reunited in Heaven, she will remain close to us in our memories of her.
