He was born in Bayville & raised in New Hyde Park, Long Island, New York by Sam and May Russo. He attended Holy Ghost Catholic School for 8 years, then completed high school at Sewanhaka High School in 1952.
Artie created Russo General Contracting and Cement business in New Hyde Park, sharing that time as a volunteer firefighter for 9 years.
He served in the US Army First Calvary in 1956, stationed in Korea for 16 months. Married Marilyn of Elmont, NY in 1961 for 56 years, and built their first house in North Bellmore, NY.
Came to California in 1964 for a 32-year career at Lockheed Aircraft, starting as a maintenance plasterer & retiring in 1995, as a maintenance mechanic. Raised Roman Catholic, Saint Finbar Church was his home, and he served proudly as part of the Usher Ministry (where he considered them part of his family). Artie was a success. He worked hard to raise, support, and educate a great family, and cared for his wife among the daily struggles that we all face. Family was very important to him. If anyone needed something, he would jump to do it right then. He loved his vegetable garden, fruit trees and keeping his front yard immaculate (free of leaves). You could always see him outside sweeping or picking up leaves. Everyone knew him because he walked all over town every day. His advice to us, is what we try to live by every day: "Be good and honest.”
He had three children Art (Karen) Russo, Jr., Tina (Jay) Sircy and Jim (Amy) Russo, and had 5 grandchildren, Dan and Nick Russo, Kayla Sircy and Vienna and Tanner Russo.
In memory of Artie, a contribution can be made made to St Jude Children's Research Hospital. Please visit stjude.org/memorial or call 1-800-873-6983
