Charles “Chuck” Husted Pomeroy III was a lifelong resident of Burbank, having been born there on July 31, 1933, the youngest child of Charles (Jr.) and May Pomeroy. He grew up in Burbank at the home built by his father on Verdugo Road and attended John Muir Junior High and Burbank High Schools. At school he showed excellence in sports, where he lettered in track and football, as well as in drafting and mechanical skills. It was the latter that attracted him to cars, which became a life-long pursuit and recreation, especially 1941 Packards. After graduating high school in 1952, Chuck served in the Army in Germany for two years and developed a unique fondness for polka music. Upon his return to civilian life, he worked at Lockheed Aircraft in Burbank, where he met his future wife, Nan Davis. They were married in 1957 and together for almost forty years before her death. Their three children, Charles (IV), Vance and Margaret were all instilled by Chuck in the pursuit of learning and adventure. In 1957, Chuck also began working at Standard Stations of California, which eventually became Chevron. He continued to work for the company at various station locations in Burbank for many years and in Northridge as a manager. At his final location in Glendale he became a franchisee of Classic Chevron and successfully operated there until the early 1990s. He finished his nearly fifty year automotive service career as a mechanic at George’s Shell in Glendale, but was already focusing on other pursuits including his annual entries of jams, jellies and marmalades at the Los Angeles County Fair, where he won several awards. Chuck was also able to enjoy time with his five grandchildren and get to lots more car museums and shows. He enjoyed attending Senior Bulldog lunches. He lived at his home on Amherst for 49 years. In 2011, he was recognized as a 60-year member of Burbank Chapter Order of DeMolay. Chuck passed peacefully on December 7, 2015. A memorial service will be held on December 19, 2015 at Valley Funeral Home in Burbank, CA. His remains will be laid to rest at Grand View Memorial Park in Glendale, California, with his wife, parents, grandparents and great-grandparents.
