OBITUARY

Mary Barbara Melone

June 26, 1946September 12, 2013

She battled breast cancer for over six years. She never asked, "Why me?" She just dealt with it. She continued to work all this time; her work meant everything to her. She would always talk about the school and what was going on. She did not want to retire as she felt once she did, that would be it for her. It kept her busy. She has two wonderful grandsons, Andrew and Daniel and they meant the world to her. There was not a thing she wouldn’t do for them. My mom and dad met when they were freshman in high school. They were inseparable and never dated anyone else. They were married for 48 years. They had only one child, me. Thank you for your kindness today. Carol (Melone) Kenton

Dear John and Carol,
Thank you for sharing your wife and mother with us in GUSD. It has been a month and I still miss her terribly. I truly appreciate all the friendship, support, laughter, converstions, and memories. I hope she continues to guide us in the right direction to achieve the best "policy, practice, and procedures."
May she live in our hearts forever.

Barbara was an amazing person and so so helpful! I well remember this when I first came to GUSD when she worked in the Business Office. She has fought a courageous fight and will always be remembered by me for her graciousness, helpful ways and in her last assignment at Clark Magnet High School, the ever so friendly face when I came to the school to visit.

My sincere sympathy to Barbara's family and the Clark Magnet High School family. Cathy McMullen

Dear John, Carol and Family,
Thank you for sharing this amazing woman with all of us. It was a honor to be part of the Glendale High Team with her. May light guide her journey to perfect peace and amazing grace.

Mrs. Melone was an amazing asset to Clark Magnet High School. Clark was the way it was because of her. I will never forget my senior year spending time with Mrs. Melone in the office and talking to her about Prom and college. I can't ever imagine Clark Magnet High School being the same without her. We will miss Mrs. Melone dearly.

Barbara was my first mentor when I arrived at Glendale High in 1989. We became friends and that friendship continued after my husband and I moved away. She was the soul of GUSD--she loved and protected her district and had more knowledge about the schools in her little finger than most of us collectively had! My heart goes out to John and the family--what a wonderful, witty and gracious lady. Rest in peace, my dear friend.

Barbara was a dear, dear friend. She made sure to call or e-mail every few weeks and schedule a dinner with "the girls" she called the FAB 5. FAB 5 became FAB 6 and 7 and FAB 8. It was a pleasure to spend time with her. I don't think I can ever go to Acapulco again without thinking of her and the good times we shared. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. She will be missed!

We have very fond memories of Barbara Melone, a grand lady who cared so much about people, and her desire to be so helpful. As a "volunteer Mom", I truly enjoyed working with Barbara while being involved with Clark's robotics team when our son was a Clark student. I will always remember her as the “go to person” and one who was so supportive in so many ways. Gone… but not forgotten.

I always called her my foster mother in high school because she would always guide me in the right direction.Through my struggles, my problems, and my hardships she was always there. She will be deeply missed but the memories will last a lifetime. May you rest in peace Mrs. Melone !
