

He was born to the late Robert and Katherine Chun on February 2, 1930 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Uncle Bobby (which most people know him as) moved from Honolulu, Hawaii to Los Angeles, California to attend Black Fox Military Academy in 1946. He graduated in 1948. He attended Los Angeles City College majoring in Psychology and minor in English and after 2 years went on to UCLA. He received the following awards while in college; Scholastic Award – top 10 in freshman year in college, UCLA Drama Award – scale model presentation of Tennessee Williams “Camino Real,” Meritorious Award – participation in student activities programs, Founder of the first Hawaiian club on campus, Organize the formation of inter-club council of college and Universities Hawaiian Clubs in Southern California (1950).
Uncle Bobby was an electrical engineer working for Ed Sylvanus and Fredrick Brown and Associates. He was either the Vice President or Senior Vice President. During his employment he received the following awards: regional award from the Illumination Engineering Society of America for Bob Chun’s presentation of Supermarket and retail chain store merchandising lighting (1962) and Received national recognition for the invention of perimeter classroom lighting for school in California (1964). Today, the perimeter system is used throughout California and the United States.
Uncle Bobby was active in the Hawaiian and Japanese communities both in Los Angeles and Honolulu. He was the Founder, Publisher and CEO of Voice of Hawaii, Founder, Director and CEO of Miss Hawaii of California, Founder of Aloha Golf Club, Member of the Aikane Club, Member of the Burbank Men’s Golf Club, and Co-Founder of the HICCSC/Ho’olaulea.
Uncle Bobby is survived by his wife Marian Lin Kum Chun (Chang) of 62 year of marriage, his daughter, Barbara Ann Aulani Kamakaiwa Chun and grandson Michael Alexander Kalani O'puu Sapp-Chun of San Diego, California. Additionally, his bother Melvin Keala Chun, and several nieces and nephews survive him.
