Stephanie M. Darrow

Stephanie M. Darrow, 92, mother and homemaker. Born Stephanie Meakin on October 28, 1917 in Los Angeles. She was the loving daughter of William Meakin and Veronica Kinsella Meakin and loving sister to Veronica (Meakin) Keller. Stephanie died on October 7, 2010 at Villa Scalabrini Retirement Center in Sun Valley where she had been a resident for 9 years.

She was a graduate of Blessed Sacrament School, Immaculate Heart High School, and Immaculate Heart College (for which she once served as President of the Alumnae Association), all in Hollywood, California. She was working toward her Masters degree at UCLA when she married her late husband of 51 years, Francis Joseph Darrow in 1941. Stephanie taught for a time at Cathedral Chapel Elementary School is Los Angeles and was a student of interior design, and had a special love for the history of the California Missions.

She is survived by their five children: Francis (and Pamela) Darrow of Downey, California; Veronica Rochford (and her husband Michael) of Miramichi New Brunswick, Canada; William (and Patricia) Darrow of Burbank, California; James (and Chelo) Darrow of Escondido, California; and Stephen Darrow of Los Angeles; and eight grandchildren: Stephen F. Darrow, MD of Minneapolis; Michael Rochford, Jr. of Surrey, British Columbia, Anne-Marie (and Daniel) Lothian of Cranberry Portage, Manitoba and Tomas (and Emily) Rochford of Strathmore, Alberta – all of Canada; Matthew Darrow of Torrance; Gregory Darrow of Milwaukee; Katherine (and Dwight) Durant of San Diego; and Elizabeth Darrow of Escondido; and three great grandchildren: Brendan Chorney Rochford, Luke Rochford, and Laura Lothian, and a fourth great grandchild (Rochford) expected in December.

The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the administration and staff of the Villa Scalabrini for the unwavering love and professional care they provided to Stephanie during her near decade at the Villa. You are part of our family.

Stephanie will be greatly missed.
