Wilfredo Peralta DE MESA

July 15, 1946December 12, 2020

The world lost a shining presence on December 12, 2020, when Wilfredo de Mesa Sr. of Los Angeles, CA died at the age of 75 of sudden Cardiac Arrest.

He delighted in cooking the most delicious Filipino dishes and baking his famous Cassava Cake, a dessert made from grated Cassava root, young coconut strings, and condensed milk. He loved being surrounded by family and friends. I mean who wouldn’t want to be around all the yummy food? Home cooked meals at its finest.

Many of his friends would describe him as kind, generous and a hard-working man. He was also smart, funny, cheerful, sarcastic, and meticulous. (He ironed everything, from his under shirt all the way to his socks.)

Remembering Wilfredo, everyone can attest, he literally had given everyone nicknames… from his children, grandkids, nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters in law, and pretty much all his friends. In his free time as a retiree, he enjoyed watching Western movies, the history channel, discovery channel, and listening to Frank Sinatra. In the more recent years, his youngest daughter upgraded his flip phone to his first iPhone and since then, you’ll catch him watching many YouTube videos of the Filipino News and sometimes he’ll accidentally put himself on Live Feed in Facebook.

Born in the Philippines, on July 15, 1945, to Policarpio and Flabiana de Mesa, Wilfrfedo was raised in the Quezon province. He lived there most of his teen years and attended elementary and high school in Tagkawayan, a 1st class municipality in Quezon Province.

In the early 70’s Wilfredo or “Willy” traveled for work in Saudi Arabia and worked in an Oil field as an Engineer. During the 80’s he flew back to the Philippines where he met his current wife Teresita Uy, which he later married in 1983.. By the late 1980’s, him and his wife migrated in the US and made Los Angeles their home. With God’s grace and his patience, he was able to bring most of his children to the US as well.

Willfredo “Willy” is survived by his wife Teresita, daughters Sherryl, Mildred, Alodia, Luningning, Leah, Teresa, Jennifer, and sons Wilfredo Jr. and Butch. He’s also survived by his many grandchildren.
