Sept 2, 1924 – Feb 7, 2011
Born in the German-settled village of Neu-Berlin in what was then the Soviet Union (now Ukraine) as the youngest of 8 children. Life was tough during the political/economic turmoil of the times. Having lost both parents by the age of 9, he was raised by his siblings and was the last of his generation. Alfred is survived by Hulda, his wife and love of 55 years, his son Harry (Karen) grandchildren Erica and Daniel, and his daughter Ruth (John), grandchildren Katrina and Conrad.
Having survived WWII, dad and mom immigrated to Vancouver in 1951. They worked extremely hard, invested wisely in real estate and built a successful life for them and their family. Dad was always positive, considered work to be his hobby and could fix almost anything. He enjoyed traveling but mostly loved to entertain family & friends. He will always be remembered for his laugh and big happy smile. Alfred never gave up easily, even during his last years. His example and zest lives on through all he touched. Thank you to the staff at Youille Residence for their kind care over the last few years and during his passing. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 on Friday Feb. 25 at Ocean View Funeral Home. In Lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to The Alzheimer Society.
