I’m going to miss you Tito, and the conversations we had with your warm encouragements and helpful hints that you always gave me. My early days growing up in North Vancouver were lonely until you and your family came over in 1972 and then I had local cousins for the first time.
I cherish the trips we had with the whole family in your VW Westphalia and how you would just calmly listen to me a sassy young boy trying to tell you how to drive straight on the freeway during windy days.
“Just keep the wheel straight Tito!” I would say, not knowing that the gusts of wind were tossing the van around and you were compensating for them. You were the most calm and gentle man to me and never got angry at my ignorance, and always offered me your wisdom and love. I will miss you deeply, and never forget you.


How hard is it to lose your role model, the voice of reason, common sense and moral rectitude?  How catastrophic is it to lose even one of the supporting pylons of a bridge?  The aftermath would be devastating, as a lone survivor's  grief would be overwhelming.   My beloved brother, Angel, was the commanding force directing us five sisters in our youth, for he was our hero who, despite his being only 8 
years old during the Japanese occupation of the Philippines, helped  our mother in saving us from starvation.  In the early 70's when he migrated with his family to Canada, he landed a job with the Ministry
of Highways in B.C. as a bridge inspector, a role which he took on all of his working life here in B.C.  Many bridges, including Alex Fraser Bridge, the Kamloops bridges, and many  more bridges in the Interior 
are permanent witnesses to his strict and high calibre engineering skills.  Angel, a born nature lover, marvelled at the panoramic beauty
of B.C.  where his contributions are permanent and significant.
Beloved "Manong", you are forever etched in my mind and heart;  it 
was an honour to be one of your five sisters, now the only one left.

Our deepest condolences to Tita Merci and family. Tito Angelo was one of the people who first welcomed us in this neighbourhood. He always takes time to chat and share his wisdom. We have been blessed to have known him and we shall surely miss him.
