Angelo is survived by his wife, Nola Peterson, sister, Tavia Tosi, sister-in-law, Shannon Bell and husband Trevor Bell, nephews Michael Bell, Daniel Bell and David Bell and their families and his "niece" Rosa Starinieri. He is predeceased by his father, Peter, mother, Katerina, step sons, Andy Peterson and Richard Peterson, and brother-in-law Duncan Elliott.
Angelo's father, Peter Tosi opened his original business as a butcher shop in 1906. With his business expanding, he established Tosi & Co. at the edge of Chinatown on Main Street, Vancouver, BC in 1920. Starting at an early age, Angelo worked alongside his father in the family business. He took over the business after his father's death in 1973. Prior to her death, his mother, Katerina, was a frequent presence as she sat in a chair beside the counter keeping Angelo company. He continued to work 6 days a week, until two weeks before his passing at the age of 93.
Tosi & Company is one of Chinatown's oldest family run businesses and remained virtually unchanged since 1930. Customers described it as "walking into the past". Angelo was well known in his community and among his customers as being welcoming, warm and friendly to all who entered or passed by. He greeted everyone with a smile, often a hug. You couldn't leave his store without a chat and a sample of his cheeses, olives or salami. He had a warm relationship with his many wholesale customers and considered many of them to be friends. As his neighbourhood changed, customers had to ring a front doorbell for access to this purveyor of Italian foods. From time to time he would help local customers by putting their personal items for sale in his window.
Angelo will be remembered by all who knew him as kind and compassionate with a friendly smile and a big warm heart. He was special, one of a kind, the best. He has left a hole in our hearts and will forever be missed.
