I had the privilege working with Anthony for over a decade at St. Paul's in Vancouver. We came across one another almost daily - sometimes we talking about sports other times we shared deep convos on our love (and angst) for the church. He would often tell me what he's reading while I tried making fun of his NFL and EPL teams. 

He loves his family. I can not recall the number of times he mentioned his family. When Tiana opted for a school in Ontario I could tell the pride and sadness on his face - all because of his deep love for her but also hard to see her go to the other side of the country. I remembered he came back from a Japan trip and gifted my kids some Japanese stationary. He didn't do it out of obligation but of deep care of his friend. 

We didn't see each other too much during his last 2-3 years before retirement and I must admit this is a major regret. I remembered the last time we talked was a month before his last day. 

Memory Eternal my brother in Christ. I look forward to our conversations when I eventually join you in the Glory of God.

One of Anthony’s favourite aspects of Pokémon Go was to participate in raid days.

Two months ago, after casually asking to meet up with him at Richmond Centre to play some Pokemon Go (aka PoGo), Anthony finally revealed his health condition to me and he also thought that he would not make it to the annual Global Fest event happening in late June.  I was left both shocked and speechless.  Yet, the warrior that Anthony was, continued to play PoGo and participated in a raid with me that day.  All the while, I was thinking, what are you doing out here!? You had major surgery and should be at home resting!  Prior to our departure, Anthony’s caring nature was still on full display as he told me which public transportation to take home.  
	
Thinking back to that day, I think Anthony had a divine inclination that he would be returning back to the Lord very soon.  Meanwhile, all I could reassure him with, when he returned back to the hospital for some more tests, was that he was going to be fine.  Selfishly, I even thought to myself, if he was going to remain in bed at the hospital on Global Fest weekend, I would have played alongside him like we always had for the past couple of years in Downtown Vancouver.  We would have reminisced about whether it was worth purchasing a Global Fest ticket for the enhanced gaming experience or how I made him run around Downtown to various raid locations.
	
God certainly works in mysterious ways.  PoGo was a platform that allowed me to know and stay connected with this fearless, kind-hearted and loving brother in Christ and I will be forever grateful for the memories we got to share together.  Rest eternally in peace my friend…until the day we meet again, by the grace of God.

Both Anthony and I were fortunate to give rides to our kids - his daughter Tiana and my son Kenrick - when they were in preschool. As it happened, our families were the only two whose children continued on to the same elementary school. I had the privilege of knowing Anthony for over 20 years.

He was a kind and gentle soul with a wonderful sense of humor- always ready with a joke to brighten the day. His patience with Tiana was remarkable; I never once saw him lose his temper. In those early years, we shared a few study breaks together, and some of our fondest memories were made during family trips to Great Wolf Lodge.  In a touching coincidence, we also shared the same birthday.

Although we didn’t see each other as often after our kids went off to high school and university, I was glad we still crossed paths at church. When we learned that both Anthony and Cynthia had retired, we looked forward to sharing more coffee time together. But all of a sudden, his passing left us deeply heartbroken for the family. While I know Anthony fought bravely, it was time to say goodbye. May his soul rest in eternal peace with the Lord. Amen.

At the funeral service, I discovered something that truly surprised me: Anthony was a pen enthusiast! Cynthia told me he had hoped to share his collection with me once he recovered. I only wish he had reached out about his hobby; I would’ve gladly visited him, even if he wasn’t feeling his best.

In his honor, I brought a cherished piece from my own collection to the service: the Parker 75 Sterling Silver Ciselé Fountain and Ballpoint Pen Set. This set holds deep meaning for me - my father once brought the ballpoint version home when I was a child. Although he later took it back, I never forgot it.  When I began the collection during the COVID-19, I sought out the same model to relive that special connection with him.

Anthony, you are the perfect husband to my cousin and a most loving father to Tiana. I'm so sorry that you and I won't be able to spend retirement time together. We could have gone to so many hockey and baseball games together while crashing a Comic Con. Rest in peace. Timmy, Maria, Blas and Paul.

We will always remember Anthony for his kindness and generosity every time we got together, whether it's LA or Vancouver. Our conversations always ended in laughs, and often revolved around our   mutual love for food, traveling and sneakers.

I will miss you deeply. I’ll always look back fondly on our Friday night dinners — your sharp, dry humour was a highlight every time. I’ll miss our chats about sports, the latest Marvel movies, and hearing your stories from travels with Tiana and Cynthia. Just a few weeks ago, you told me over facetime to “live it up.” So here’s to living it up — in honour of the gentle, kind, and loving uncle you were. Thank you for everything.

Photo was taken Dec 2016 when Anthony, Cindy and their family was down in LA for Xmas holidays. 
They loved going to Disneyland, Universal Studios. I think we got up super early on Xmas eve to stand in line for Portos pastries that year. 
We all loved Anthony. He was the  most easy going, big hearted, cheerful person. He loved Cindy and Tianna so much! We miss him and he’ll live in our hearts, our memories forever.

As I was going through some old photos recently, I stumbled on one I hadn’t seen in years—Anthony, standing in front of an F-15 at the 2009 Abbotsford Air Show. I had completely forgotten about that day, but in an instant, the memories came rushing back.

We had an amazing time together that day. Both of us were a bit obsessed with airplanes, and the chance to spend hours geeking out over jets, engines, and afterburners was pure joy. We wandered the grounds like a couple of kids, snapping pictures, pointing things out to each other, and just soaking it all in.

Later, while reviewing our photos, I remember arguing with him, “I don’t really like any of them. I don’t feel anything when I look at them.” Anthony, in his thoughtful way, said something that stuck with me: “It’s too fresh. Give it some time.”

He was so right.

At the time, the pictures felt flat. But now, with the years and perspective that only time can bring, this photo of him means everything. I see the excitement on his face, I hear our banter, and I feel the weight of a shared memory that has only deepened with age.

I miss the way he could be both insightful and infuriating, sometimes in the same sentence. But most of all, I miss the way he showed up—with quiet wisdom, dry humor, and that knack for saying the right thing at the right time, even if I didn’t realize it then.

I’ll always be grateful for that day, and all the other times we have spent together—for everything he was, and everything he still is to me.

We’ll always remember Anthony as a kind, easy-going, and gentle soul who was loved by everyone who knew him. Even while facing stomach cancer over the past year, he stayed strong and calm. Our hearts go out to Cynthia, Tiana, and the whole family during this tough time. Though we’re far away in Hong Kong, we’re thinking of you all and sending our love. Anthony’s warmth and kindness will never be forgotten.
