The full life of Audrey Josephine McCluskey (nee Wood) came to a peaceful end on April 18, 2011. She was born in Birmingham England in 1925, the fifth of ten children. She served in the British Women's Royal Artillery Corps throughout WW ll. Audrey, or 'Joey' as she was known then, gave five years of dedicated active service. With her husband and the first two of five children she immigrated to Canada in 1955, settling in Vancouver.
Audrey was preceded by her husband John in 1987. She will be lovingly remembered by children Richard, James, Rosemary, Joan (Steven), John (Daniele), and seven grand-children, Rhiannon, Camille, Jean¬-Philippe, Leila, Brendan, Jessica and James. Audrey will be sorely missed by her surviving sister, Dorothy (Dolly) brother William, and extended family in the U.K.
She was able to remain at home despite failing health due to the care and assistance of her son Richard and dear friends Paul and Eileen Mosca, Tom Durrie, and many caring neighbors in the Rose Street community where she lived for over 50 years. The family wishes to thank the nursing staff of We-Care, West Coast Health, and Drs. Barzalai and Kline.
A mass celebrating Audrey's life will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Church 2025 Napier St. Vancouver on Friday April, 29th at 1 pm. Interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park 3789 Royal Oak Ave. Burnaby. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
