Basil was born in Vancouver on May 07, 1933 into a large Irish-Catholic family which included an older brother and three (3) sisters. Basil did not have much of an opportunity for a formal education; however, he was always well-read and interested in a wide range of topics including history, aviation and his beloved Vancouver Canucks.
As a young man, Basil started working at Canfor (Eburne Sawmill) on Marine Drive in Vancouver until his retirement. Along the way, Basil met a girl from Saskatchewan, marrying Marilyn Wetherell, and shortly thereafter they started to raise a family.
Basil was preceded in death by his brother Doug and sisters Carmel, Teresa and Beverly and wife Marilyn of thirty-five (35) years. He is survived by his sons Roland Cooney, Nolan Cooney and daughter Brett Lau; grandchildren Katrina Cooney, Amanda Cooney and Roy Lau.
Funeral services are planned for Wednesday, April 13th, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Forest Lawn 3789 Royal Oak Avenue, Burnaby, British Columbia. All are invited to attend. Feel free to leave an electronic message of condolence Basil's family by "Adding a Memory" directly below.
