Benno Schultz

June 25, 1926 – December 30, 2025
Obituary of Benno Schultz
IN THE CARE OF

Ocean View Funeral Home & Burial Park

Benno Schultz was born in Zdunska-Wola, Poland on June 25, 1926, the youngest of three children born to Rudolf and Marie Schultz. Rudolf was a master shoemaker and Marie a homemaker.

Benno was drafted into the German army in 1944 and although the eastern (Russian) front was very close by, he was sent to the western front which he was very thankful for. He was taken prisoner near Aachen and sent to an American POW camp where he met his future best friend Georg. The two of them escaped and made their way to Germany in search of their families who had fled Poland to escape the Russian army.

Benno was unable to locate his family, but Georg found his in Westerhof and brought Benno along, which is how Benno met his future wife, Georg's sister Hedwig. They married in 1949 and in 1950 their first son Norbert was born.

Benno and his small family along with Hedwig's emigrated to Canada in 1951, immediately becoming members of Bethany Baptist Church. Benno began working the day after arrival in Vancouver and eventually started a lathing and drywall company that exists in similar form to this day.

In 1958 their second son Rolf was born.

Benno developed quite a reputation in the construction industry and was also very devoted to his church. He was also known for having quite a sense of humour, even and perhaps especially in the senior's homes he resided in.

In 1975 he was blessed with his granddaughter Carla (Don), daughter of Norbert (Eleanor), and in 2004 his family grew with Rolf's (Maggie) stepdaughters Cecylia (Patrick) and Emilia (Jason) and later on four step-great grandchildren Ezra, Sierra, Caden, and Sebastian.

Benno and Hedwig enjoyed many good years together and were very grateful for their family and the many close friendships they made along the way.

In 2024, Benno lost his beloved wife Hedwig after seventy-five years of marriage and after a life of ninety-nine years, on December 30, 2025, he was taken home to be with his saviour.
