It is with deep sorrow and broken hearts that we announce the tragic and untimely passing of Betty Jeanne Smith, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and best friend on July 27, 2023 in New Westminster, British Columbia.
Betty Jeanne Smith, formerly White, nee Stacey was born in Regina, Saskatchewan to Thomas and Dorothy Stacey on August 19, 1940. Betty grew up in Regina, where she graduated from Luther College High School. She later married and had three children. Moving to Alberta when her children were young, Betty pursued accounting and had a very successful career.
Betty loved to cook and create delicious meals for her family and friends. Many wonderful times were spent around the dining table, enjoying fabulous food and fun times. Sewing was another passion of Betty’s and she spent many years sewing special items for underprivileged children around the world. She had a kind and gentle heart, and always had something nice to say about those she met.
Traveling and outdoor adventures were a true love of Betty’s and she traveled extensively. She enjoyed playing cribbage and board games, reading books and watching movies. Spending time with family and friends was something that Betty treasured and she would often speak of the good times she had.
In 2008 Betty and her late husband, Donald A.G. Smith, moved to Vancouver Island, and settled in Colwood, near Victoria, BC. She enjoyed being involved with the Juan de Fuca Seniors Center and the Gordon United Church. Betty and Don made many wonderful friends over the years they spent on the island. She was a beautiful person, always with a quick wit in her kind and loving way. She touched the hearts of those she met along her road of life in many different ways. For those of you that knew her, we hope you keep her memory well. Our family is comforted knowing that she had many friends that loved her dearly.
Betty is lovingly survived by her only sibling Lynne (John) Tedder, daughter Leslie (Dave) Johnston, and son Jeffery (Corinne) White. Step children Terry Ann (Jim) Meldrum, Janet (Lorne) Charles, and Gary (Kathy) Smith. Grandchildren; Trevor, Nicole, Jessica, Thomas, Troy, Pamalyn, Megan, Holly, Jackie, Natasha, Tiara, and Victoria. Great grandchildren; Emma, Lexie, Ryley, Madison, Clayton, Sophia, Chloe and Jensen.
