

Calvin (Cal) Yin Lang was born on October 6, 1927 in Cardston, Alberta and stayed until he graduated from High School. He then attended the University of Toronto where he received his degree in optometry. After optometry school, he moved to Vancouver, British Columbia. He worked as an optometrist the rest of his professional career. He had a private practice at his father’s jewelry store on Broadway and later at his home on W. 10th Avenue. Throughout his life, Cal was an avid rockhound. He would go on week long trips looking for the finest and rarest rocks. He would bring these rocks home and spend countless hours shining and carving them into gems. He volunteered many hours at the Dunbar Lapidary Club. The annual Gem Show was his favorite event of the year. He also volunteered at the University Hill School. He passed away in his home on August 21, 2012. Cal is survived by his sister Carol Chan, brother in-law Fred Chan, and nephew Andrew Chan of San Francisco, his aunt Louise Lee, numerous cousins, and numerous friends from the lapidary world. Memorial Service will take place at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 1, 2012 in The Chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home.
