FELICELLA, Carlo September 23, 1935 – November 21, 2021

Carlo, 86, of West Vancouver, British Columbia, passed away unexpectedly yet peacefully at Lions Gate Hospital. Carlo’s memory will be kept alive by his wife of 57 years, Rosa (née DeFazio) and his children John-Carlo (Bonnie), Carla and Paul, granddaughters Alyssa and Anna.

Predeceased by his parents Antonietta and Giovanni, Carlo is survived by his siblings Nick (Pauline), Margherita Cucca (late Umberto), Mario (Anna), Tony (Sina) and Guy and many nieces and nephews.

Born in Mariglianella, Naples, Italy, at 18 Carlo followed his eldest brother Nick to Canada; first to Ontario, doing construction and odd jobs before migrating west to Vancouver. In 1960 he became a successful hairstylist, establishing Italian Coiffures, an iconic West Vancouver fixture for over five decades. Throughout his 59-year hairdressing career Carlo was active in the BC Hairdressing Association (board member, competition judge and mentor to generations of hairstylists) and received many awards including Canadian Champion hairstylist in 1965. Beyond the salon, Carlo most loved tending to his lush gardens in West Vancouver and Point Roberts and spending time with his family.

Genuine and kind, Carlo possessed a special aura, had a gorgeous smile, embodied a generous spirit and had a unique way of putting everything into perspective. He was wise and loving – the perfect father who encouraged his children and grandchildren to embrace happiness.

Viewing will be held on Sunday, November 28th from 7:00-9:00 pm at Ocean View Burial Park, 4000 Imperial St., Burnaby. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, November 30th at 10:00 am at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church, 599 Keith Road (and Taylor Way), West Vancouver. Entombment to follow at Ocean View Burial Park, 4000 Imperial St., Burnaby, for family members.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation or in Carlo’s name to the charity of your choice.

Dear Auntie Rosa, JC, Carla and Paul,
I still can’t believe Uncle Carlo has left us. He will always be remembered for his amazing smile and laugh. He gave me some interesting hair styles: orange punk hair with blonde tails was one of my favourites! My dad wasn’t too happy about it, but I loved it. Uncle Carlo was always so kind to me and my family as well. Always had something encouraging and nice to say to us. My heart goes out to his beautiful granddaughters because of the short time they had with him. He was taken too soon. My prayers are with all of you. Love The MacDonalds. ❤️

Carlo Felicella, a caring family man, a pioneer in his field and a beacon in his community. A true renaissance man Carlo was a person with genuine competence in a multiple yet different fields, all of which complemented one another to make him a more talented and productive person. He brought out the beauty in everyone and made them feel happy. With his incredible gardening skills and patience he clipped and grew bountiful gardens. I am grateful to have met Carlo and to be welcomed into the beautiful world he created. Carla, my dear friend, your dad will be missed. My heart is saddened by your loss. The world has lost a true Italian Uomo Universale. Ciao Judy
