Carlos was born in Murtosa, Portugal on July 27th, 1936 where he resided with his sisters Amelia, Augusta and their parents Joao and Maria. Carlos left Portugal for Brazil in 1954 where he lived for two years before traveling to Montreal in 1956. He eventually immigrated to Vancouver, BC and settled permanently by 1957.
A solid work ethic, moral compass and a loyalty to family were what defined Carlos. His early years saw him working as a cook on commercial fishing vessels in his native Portugal. Once in Canada, he worked various construction jobs before plying his trade in building swimming pools. As the physical labor took a toll on his body, he then joined his wife in running their dry-cleaning business for 20 years.
A passion for fishing, camping and camaraderie were at the forefront of Carlos’ pass times. He instilled a love for those same things in his children, family and friends. To know Carlos, was to know kindness, resourcefulness and someone who always shared a smile and laugh with those around him.
Carlos is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Maria, his daughter Cindy (Nelson), his son John and his grandchildren, Andrew, Mya, Brandon and Lucas.
A funeral mass will be held on June 30th at 11am at Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Vancouver, BC. His burial will take place at 1pm at Ocean View Burial Park.
