Cipriano Ambegia died peacefully surrounded by family in Windermere Care Centre on April 13, 2019 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada at the age of 78.
Cipriano is survived by his children, Ellen (Noel) and Jeffrey; grandchildren, Grace and Jacqueline; siblings, Isidro, Juanita, Ernesto, Erlinda, Joe and Elsa and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ambrosio and Rufina and his siblings, Mauro, Maria and Oscar.
Cipriano was born on April 18, 1940 in Malasiqui, Pangasinan, Philippines to Ambrosio and Rufina Ambegia. After graduating from Agno Valley College, he worked at the Antamok Mines in Baguio city as a mining sampler. Soon after he became the Librarian and Commandant of the Citizens Army Training in Agno Valley College for the high school students. While working during the day, he took night classes to complete his Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts and Bachelor of Science in Education in Agno Valley College. He then joined the Philippine Air Force and achieved rank as First Lieutenant.
He married Aurelia de la Cruz on December 29, 1973 in the Philippines. After moving to Vancouver, Cipriano began working for the University of British Columbia at the Woodward Biomedical Library as a Library Technician. After Aurelia’s passing in 1993, he continued to raise his two children as a single Father and retired from UBC after 31 years of service.
Cipriano loved to socialize and was a self-taught guitar and piano player. He loved to dance (mainly the Cha Cha and Tango) and spent many weekends dancing the afternoons away with many friends. He was a devoted man who was witty, lively, charming, generous, and wise with his advice. He was an active and dedicated member of his parish Church (St. Andrew’s Choir, Knights of Columbus) as well as an active member and held several executive positions in various Philippine associations over the years (Philippine War Veterans & Ex-Servicemen’s Society, Filipino Seniors Club of BC, Filipino Zodiac Circle of BC, Philippine Diamond Society of BC, Forever Young Seniors Society, and Filipino-Canadian New Era Society of BC).
A funeral is scheduled for April 25, 2019 at 10:30am at St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church, Vancouver, with the burial to follow at Ocean View Funeral Home & Burial Park, Burnaby.
