With great sadness we mourn the passing of Clarke John Nakamoto. On January 20, 2024, at the age of 48, Clarke left us while he was working down in Costa Rica.
Clarke leaves behind his loving parents, John and Marion Nakamoto, his brother, Blake and wife, Stephanie and daughter, Taylor. He also had numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Most important of all, Clarke is survived by his two children, daughter, Sam and son, Evan. He loved and cherished them dearly and spoke so proudly of their efforts and accomplishments.
Clarke was born on April 3rd, 1975 at Burnaby General Hospital. He attended Gilpin Elementary and Burnaby Central Secondary. It was there where Clarke formed and maintained lifelong friendships. He graduated from Simon Fraser University, received his business degree and became a chartered accountant. He worked for Grant Thornton in Bermuda for a period of three years before returning to Vancouver.
Clarke loved life, a sense of adventure and he loved people. Since childhood, he was introduced to many activities. He would sit in a boat for hours hoping to catch a salmon. He could gracefully whizz down the slopes at Blackcomb. He later became an avid golfer and curler. Clarke loved to organize activities that involved sports or entertainment.
Clarke had an adventurous spirit and he loved to travel, meet people and learn the culture of countries he visited. He tried to instill this adventurous quality in his children. There was nothing better than skiing at Whistler and discovering new places to taste an ethnic meal.
Clarke loved to gather with his family and friends frequently hosting dinner parties where he demonstrated his culinary skills. He loved to chat, laugh and exchange ideas at these gatherings. Clarke demonstrated such an entrepreneurial spirit always seeking new challenges and opportunities.
Clarke treasured his friends and spoke so fondly of them. He had friends all over the lower mainland and around the world. He realized that friendships were precious, meant to be nurtured and not taken for granted. Those who knew him would say he had a great sense of humour, loved to laugh and enjoy himself.
Clarke will be sadly missed, particularly by his parents, family and those who knew him well. We will remember his endearing qualities- a love for life, a love for his family and love for his children, his sensitive nature, his generosity and most of all his winning smile. Clarke, you will always be in our thoughts and hearts forever.
